Audacious is an advanced multi-platform GTK+-based music player that is free, lightweight and focused on delivering excellent audio quality while supporting a wide variety of codecs.
It is a fork of Beep Media Player (BMP), which was forked from XMMS and it has an audio playback engine so advanced it is considerably more powerful than GStreamer. It also poses a customizable User Interface and a responsive app window.

Audacious can be easily installed on Debian, Ubuntu and Linux Mint from the default package repositories.
$ sudo apt-get install audacious
Note that the Audacious versions available on Debian and its derivatives tend to be rather out of date. To install most recent version, use Web Upd8 PPA as shown.
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 $ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install audacious
Fedora users can install Audacious using dnf package manager:
# dnf install audacious
